Free research tools that check before they format
AI assistants and citation generators both make up references. These tools look every reference up in Crossref, PubMed and OpenAlex first, so a wrong year, a missing author or a paper that never existed is caught before it reaches your manuscript.
What makes these different
Most citation generators take what you paste on trust and format it beautifully, mistakes included. Here, each reference is matched against the publisher's own record first. When the record disagrees with what you typed, you see both and the corrected version is used. When no record exists, you are told plainly instead of getting a polished citation for a paper nobody wrote.
Retractions are checked too, using the Retraction Watch data that Crossref publishes, so a retracted trial does not slip into a reference list unnoticed.
